Put your shoulders into your punches

The ability to control your shoulders independently from your chest and arms is crucial, not just for punching with power but also for defending your chin.

The shoulder roll is a commonly cited technique for this (you can’t help but think of Mayweather when you search “shoulder roll”), but you also want to be able to drive your shoulder straight to your chin during your punches to protect against counterattacks.
